The 21st century will be India’s century!

Shri Narendra Modi
Shri Narendra Modi

On September 17, 1950, in the small town of Vadnagar in Gujarat, a boy was born into a modest family of grocers. His name was Narendra Damodardas Modi.

As a child, he helped his father sell tea at the local railway station, later setting up his own tea stall with his brother. From those humble beginnings, he developed a discipline and work ethic that would carry him far.

❝ I was born in a poor family. I used to sell tea on a railway platform. My life journey has been long, but I have never forgotten my roots. ❞

The Young Volunteer

Even as a boy, Modi was drawn to service. He joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in his teens, embracing its discipline and ideology. Life in the shakhas (training camps) gave him a sense of belonging and purpose.

At 17, restless and seeking clarity, he left home and traveled across India, visiting ashrams in the Himalayas and wandering through spiritual centers. This search for identity deepened his resilience and resolve.

From Party Worker to Organizer

In the 1970s, Modi became an active member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He was known as a tireless organizer — meticulous, strategic, and willing to work behind the scenes.

During the Emergency of 1975–77, when civil liberties were suspended, he went underground, writing, organizing protests, and learning the craft of political survival.

❝ Hard work never brings fatigue. It brings satisfaction. ❞

Chief Minister of Gujarat

In 2001, after an earthquake devastated Gujarat, Modi was appointed Chief Minister. He quickly established himself as a decisive leader, focusing on infrastructure, governance, and investment.

His tenure drew both praise and criticism — hailed for economic growth and modernization, questioned for the communal violence of 2002. Modi himself maintained that his focus was always on development.

❝ My vision is the development of all, with the participation of all. ❞

Over the next decade, Gujarat became a showcase of his model of governance: roads, electricity, and industries rising across the state.

The 2014 Wave

By 2013, Modi was the BJP’s choice for prime minister. His campaign electrified India. With promises of jobs, growth, and a new era of governance, he connected directly with millions through mass rallies and digital outreach.

On May 26, 2014, Narendra Modi was sworn in as the 14th Prime Minister of India, leading the BJP to its first majority in three decades.

❝ Good days are coming. ❞ (Achhe din aane wale hain.)

A Global Leader

As Prime Minister, Modi projected India’s voice on the world stage — addressing the US Congress, speaking at the United Nations, launching the International Day of Yoga, and strengthening ties with nations across Asia, Europe, and America.

At home, his policies included the Goods and Services Tax (GST), Make in India, Digital India, and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission). In 2019, he returned with an even bigger mandate, ushering in another term of strong leadership.

❝ The world’s eyes are on India. Our time has come. ❞

The Legacy in Motion

A boy who dreamed beyond his circumstances, today shapes the destiny of 1.4 billion people. His life is both a political saga and a testament to the idea that no dream is too distant when carried by courage, conviction, and service.

❝ I am a small man who wants to do big things for small people. ❞

From Vadnagar’s railway platform to Delhi’s corridors of power, Modi’s journey is seen as a story of aspiration, grit, and unrelenting ambition. Loved by millions, criticized by others, he remains one of the most influential — and polarizing — leaders of the 21st century.

❝ Each one of us has a natural instinct to rise, like a flame of fire. Let us nurture this instinct. ❞

❝ Yoga is India’s gift to the world — a holistic approach to health and harmony. ❞

❝ India is not only the world’s largest democracy, it is also the mother of democracy. ❞

❝ In democracy, the real strength lies with the people. Governments come and go, systems rise and fall, but people remain eternal. ❞
